Bridging the Gap for Mental Health Care in Cross-Border Regions

Mental health has been a priority in EU and national health policies since 2022. Yet, young people living in border regions still face barriers to accessing the care they need due to conflicting national rules.
About the event
Karakter, a Dutch organisation specialising in child and adolescent psychiatry, invites you to a meeting in Brussels to discuss these challenges. We will focus on Dutch youths living in Germany who need mental health care but cannot access Karakter’s services because of legal and administrative barriers. This case highlights how differences in Member States’ laws can put children and families at risk.
With the support of the BRIDGEforEU framework and the b-solutions initiative (AEBR), this event will bring together EU and national policymakers, health and insurance experts, and regional stakeholders to explore practical solutions for the Dutch–German border — with lessons for other EU regions.
