The European Specialist Nurses Organisation (ESNO) is celebrating International Nurses Day 2025 at an event in Zagreb, Croatia, hosted at the presidential venue by thePresident of Croatia, Mr. Zoran Milanović.
This event will include a formal meeting and presentation, followed by an afternoon of discussions and activities at Zagreb University to highlight the vital role of nurses in healthcare today. Hosted by the Croatian Nursing Society and Sigma Theta Tau, this celebration aligns with the official theme of the International Council of Nurses.
ESNO’s vision for the future of nursing
On this important day, ESNO presents two forward-looking visions that reflect their ongoing commitment to strengthening the role of nurses across Europe:
1. Nurses as key partners in pharmaceuticals
Nurses bring insight to areas like antimicrobial stewardship, vaccination, and biosimilar use, yet their influence in pharmaceutical decision-making remains limited. ESNO champions a future where nurses are central to prescribing practices, education, and health strategies across Europe.
2. Advancing nurse autonomy
Highly trained nurses are still too often overlooked. ESNO advocates for greater autonomy, empowering nurses to lead, prescribe, innovate, and contribute fully, without outdated structural or cultural constraints.
